The Montreal police seized an arsenal of assault weapons in Laval during an operation targeting an alleged drug ring in Montreal North. Acting on a search warrant, investigators with the anti-gang squad of the police’s organized crime unit raided the residence of Nicolae Catalin Vinersar on January 12. On the premises, police allege they found illicit substances and cash as well as unregistered assault weapons and ammunition.
Vinersar, 50, who is known to police, appeared in Quebec Court in January to face 14 charges related to the possession of illegal weapons and possession of drugs with the intent to traffic. Montreal police only announced the arrest on Thursday.
The operation was conducted with help from the Laval police.
